Magoffin House
Dr. James Magoffin, Jr.
This house was built in 1821 upon the arrival of Dr. James Magoffin. Dr. Magoffin became a Physician and a Surgeon in Ireland and worked as a surgeon on a British navy ship before moving to Mercer. He and his wife Grace raised 10 children in this house and lived here until Grace's death in 1873 then Dr. Magoffin's death in 1879. Two of his granddaughters remained living in the home until 1951 when Henrietta Floyd Magoffin presented the house to the Mercer County Historical Society.
