Raisch Log Cabin

Hickory Township

The Raisch log cabin was discovered in 1977 by a construction worker during the dismantling of an old house in Hermitage. The cabin was literally found within the walls of the house. The sharp-eyed worker recognized the potential of what he had found and the cabin, thankfully, was spared from destruction.

The cabin is approximated to have been built around 1790 - 1810 and is believed to be one of the oldest remaining log cabins in Mercer County, PA. Today the PNC Bank stands on the site at 2470 E. State Street.

The cabin was originally moved to a spot on Forker Blvd. in Hermitage provided by the trustees of Buhl Park, but in 1995 a group of developers wanted to buy the land it was placed on. The MCHS was approached about moving the cabin once again. It was decided that the Recreation Area in Sharpsville would be its new home. It was placed on a nice quiet hilltop near the old Erie Extension Canal Lock # 10 (Pierce Lock), where it can be appreciated by visitors to the park.
